"Our goal is to provide an attractive and engaging format in which to set a clear and uncompromising gospel presentation"
Barry Sprott (Founder of TELit)
Beginnings
TELit (formerly Thematic Evangelistic Literature) was established in Edinburgh in 1990 by Barry Sprott. This stemmed from his concern over the poor quality and presentation of much that passed as evangelistic leaflets at that time.
Sensing that God was challenging him to do something about this, he left his employment as a social worker and, with a few years of previous experience with a printing company, took a step of faith and launched the ministry operating initially from home.
TELit quickly developed a reputation for quality materials and in 1995, the operation moved to separate premises in Leith where it continued until 2015.
It was always the aim to make quality, full-colour folding leaflets in a contemporary style and attractive format without compromising the essential elements of the gospel message. Each leaflet was built around a theme, such as a current event, a season of the year, a specific location or some aspect of everyday life. By doing so, they served to show the relevance of the Christian message for today.
He recorded the story of how God worked in his life and the whole ethos and details of what makes TELit leaflets. Download ‘Reality beyond Reason’ and read for yourself why TELit leaflets are such a good way to communicate the gospel in a lost and perishing world of neighbours and friends.
A changing of the guard
After 25 years and following a period of ill health, Barry decided to retire from the ministry. An agreement was reached in 2015 for TELit to be merged with OPAL under the new name of TELit@OPAL.
In 2020 TELit again became independent as a charity recognised in Scotland Number SC050969 and as a company number 702490.
The current Trustees are:
- Alan Gamble (Chairman)
- Jim Armstrong
- Ruth Robertson
- Jim McLatchie
- Willie Maclean
- Derek Malcolm
- Anne Smith
- Robert Smith
The operation was moved to Linwood, Scotland and is now managed by Robert and Anne Smith. However, the vision remains the same and we are privileged to build on the great work started by Barry and his team.
As well as continuing to serve the needs of Christians and churches in the UK, we are working to widen the availability of other language editions.
